It is not required for all, however shipments can be held by local authority in United Arab Emirates after screening due to lack of MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) or NON DG (Dangerous Goods) declaration letter from the shipper resulting to misconnections and impacting end-to-end service.
It would be advisable for all shipments originating, transiting and terminating for UAE to have MSDS or NON DG declaration from shipper enclosed in the shipment and copies to be uploaded in IDIS.
Any parcel / cargo arriving in Cotonou with a value of more than $100 USD is subject to customs formalities, even if caused by a missort.
In this case, a fine is imposed and payable before returning parcels to the shipper. The amount of the fine is determined by Customs.
Customs does not provide proforma invoice, an acquittance is issued only after payment.
There are special stipulations on the following commodities when shipping to Benin. If you plan to ship one of the commodities listed below, be sure to adhere to the following stipulations in order to avoid delays and holds at customs.
Shipments of documents do not require an invoice.
The consignee's telephone number must appear on the invoice. Shipments without the telephone number are often delayed or undeliverable and are ultimately abandoned.
The consignee's mobile number and e-mail address if available, should also appear on the invoice.
Any import invoice with a value greater than or equal to 1 000 USD is subject to Import Verification Program (PVI) Procedure;
The invoice should be itemized showing accurate values for each line item with the country or territory of origin of the goods clearly mentioned.
To avoid customs inspection delays it is recommended that companies must use invoices with their letterhead which also has the company rubber stamp on the invoice
Any import invoice value checked by Benin Controle/PVI and not meeting international standards as described above will be corrected by the Customs Administration and the respective amount of duty and taxes will be raised.
High value shipments being forwarded without an insurance need to be submitted to an insurance company in Benin for regularization at the expense of the importer.
The destination country or territory considers the following items as document shipments. If criteria are listed, the shipment must meet the criteria to be considered a document shipment.
Event tickets coming from a printing company and sent to the organizer of the event or ticket sales offices can not be sent as documents.
In addition to the prohibited commodities listed here, it is prohibited to ship the following commodities to Benin.
