Import Restrictions

The limit for personal gifts not requiring an import licence is $40NZ. Intoxicating liquors are accepted only if addressed to: The Manager, Cook Islands Liquor Supplies. Otherwise, import restrictions are the same as New Zealand.

Prohibited Items

Prohibitions are the same as New Zealand and:

  • credit cards
  • graphite products
  • liquor
  • razor blades
  • seeds
  • tobacco.

Documentation Required

Information regarding Customs can be found in "Customs Requirements" of the Canada Postal Guide.

Any other required documents are the same as New Zealand. A commercial invoice is required.

Gifts

If the value of the gift does not exceed NZ $ 75.00, the gift will be imported free of Customs charges.

If the value of the gift exceeds NZ $75.00, Customs charges will be payable on the value of the gift that is in excess of NZ $75.00. Relevant applicable customs charges vary according to the item being sent.

On gift parcels where the contents are intended for more than one person and the total declared value in excess of NZ $75.00 a multiple gift allowance will be given on the condition that the separate identity of each recipient can be clearly established.

Imports Via Mail

Where it is clear the importation is for a private individual and the parcel contains sufficient information, an assessment will be made by Customs, and the items will be sent to the recipient. If further information is required in order for an assessment to be made, or permits from agencies is required, a notice will be sent to the recipient.
