Import Restrictions

Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:

• animal rugs or covers and accessories, used
• coins exceeding a value of 10 dollars
• footwear
• fruit
• medicines
• potatoes
• razor blades
• spirits
• tobacco
• toys resembling firearms
• vegetables.

Prohibited Items

In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:

• alcohol
• bees and beekeeping appliances
• bows and arrows
• charms and similar objects
• coffee, cocoa and related products
• counterfeit coin
• conch or conch meat
• cement
• caravans
• edible oil
• flick or spring knives
• goods depicting or bearing any reference to the ganja plant
• honey and beeswax
• instruments and appliances for gambling
• illegal drugs or utensils
• items related to witchcraft
• log and timber products from Liberia
• lottery tickets
• maize flour
• marine radio transmitting equipment
• meats
• medicines for venereal diseases
• milk, condensed
• plants and seeds
• pornography

• shaving brushes made in Asia

• spear guns and Hawaiian slings

• string and rope
• weapons.

In addition, an import permit is required for many goods mailed to the Cayman Islands. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has any necessary permit. All delivery addresses must include a post office box number.

Custom Procedures:

It is the importer’s responsibility in law to enter all goods (whether dutiable or not) with the Customs Service within seven days of their arrival in the Cayman Islands, by completing the appropriate entry form and lodging it with Customs.

Postal importations are normally cleared against the sender’s declaration accompanying the package and do not require formal entry procedures. In some cases, however, (e.g when the goods are of high value or might be eligible for a duty relief, or where further information is required) the Customs Officer at the Postal Depot may call for the completion of the appropriate entry form.
