Import Restrictions

All organizations of the State and its enterprises, embassy and diplomatic personnel in Cuba, and representatives of international agencies are authorized to receive items which correspond to their activities. All contents are subject to customs duty, except prosthetics, educational books, records and films. Authorities will seize any item they cannot readily identify.

Items worth more than 200 CUC will not be accepted.

Stamps

Only the Philatelic Federation can exchange stamps.

Import Permits

Commercial goods can be imported into Cuba only by government entities and joint ventures holding permits for the specific goods in question. Agents and intermediaries can handle goods on consignment for licensed importers, but they cannot import on their own account, or conduct distribution operations. Joint ventures with foreign participation will generally obtain their import permits through Cuban partnerships.

• plants and plant products
• playing cards
• precious metals and stones
• recording tape, films and photographic papers
• scent
• spare parts for motor vehicles
• specimens of flora and fauna in any form

• weapons of any kind and ammunition.

Cuba reserves the right to not accept, handle, convey or deliver letter-post or parcels containing coins, currency notes or securities of any kind payable to bearer, cheques, precious metals and stones, jewels or other valuable articles or any kind of document, goods or object in cases where these items do not comply with its national or international regulations or technical and packaging instructions for air transport and shall accept no liability in cases of theft, loss or damage to such items. Cuba reserves the right not to accept letter-post or parcels subject to customs duty containing goods that are imported into the country if their value does not comply with its national regulations.

1. Commercial Invoice

2. Certificate of Origin

3. Insurance Policy for FOB shipped goods

4. Import License issued by the Ministry of Foreign Trade

5. Licenses and/or special certificates for goods of plant or animal origin for human consumption
