Import Restrictions

Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:

• animal products
• plants and plant products.

Prohibited Items

In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:

• any printed material urging or advocating terrorism, violence, war, racism, anti-semitism or fascism
• coins, securities
• credit cards
• devices for smoking opium or hashish
• graphite products
• jewellery
• live animals
• narcotics, behaviour-influencing substances and devices for their use
• organic/inorganic chemicals
• pearls
• pharmaceutical products
• plant products - hyacinth bulbs, carnation and chrysanthemum seedlings and cuttings, seeds of leguminous plants, seeds of weeds subject to quarantine
• political material
• pornography
• press kits
• publications harmful to young people or works contrary to public order
• precious metals and stones
• products of the printing industry
• raw materials of animal origin
• weapons and all components.

Animal products mailed to Latvia require a Certificate of Veterinary Service. Plant products require a Phytosanitary Certificate. Gifts to private individuals up to 50 lats value are duty-exempt if the article contains no more than three identical objects.

Customs Procedure:

Parcels sent by one private person from a third country to another private person are released from import duty if the value of the parcel does not exceed EUR 45, provided that the parcel in question is not commercial.

Low value goods are parcels under the value of EUR 22. Parcels of goods with little value sent from a third country to the addressee are released from import duty. This also applies to purchase of goods over the internet, given that receipts are provided.

Alcohol and tobacco goods, perfumes and toilet waters are not considered to be exempt from import duties.
